Stacey Range Messina
An award-winning journalist, writer and public relations consultant, I have more than two decades of experience in crafting persuasive prose that engages and inspires action.

My coverage of politics, crime, local government and myriad issues and events as well as investigative reports for The Kansas City Star, Omaha World-Herald, Orlando Sentinel and Lansing State Journal prompted policy and legal changes, led reforms, and won several national and state honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, Michigan Press Association, Nebraska Press Association, and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, among others.
Following the 2006 elections, I decided to stop reporting on the problems and start working on solving some of those closest to my heart. As a communications consultant, I have helped educate state and federal lawmakers, policymakers and the public with campaigns advocating for public policy change on issues of child welfare, children’s health, early childhood education, youth criminal justice, family supports, economic security, the environment, school funding, and more. I have led successful campaigns and provided valuable services for several organizations, including Voices for Michigan’s Children, the Michigan League for Public Policy, the Early Childhood Investment Corporation, Michigan State University, the Art for Charlie Foundation, DeWitt Public Schools, Potter Park Zoo, the Junior League of Lansing, the Women’s Caring Program, and others.
I have coordinated, researched, created and disseminated numerous communication products both digitally and in print, on many issues, on tight deadlines and for diverse audiences. I pride myself on being able to quickly learn and write compelling copy on virtually any topic and in any style.
But being a great writer and understanding how to persuade audiences is only half the battle in today’s world where many voices compete for attention. The other half is staying on top of evolving digital innovations, knowing how to best integrate them into multimedia strategies, how to dial down to your most receptive audiences, and how to collect, analyze and interpret analytics to drive your strategy and measure its effectiveness. I was fortunate to gain these skills and many more as part of the original cohort of graduate students in the Strategic Communications Program at Michigan State University, ranked as the best online Master’s in Media Communications in the U.S.
